Overlays
consist of the use of a cementitious material that is applied in
a thin layer (usually 1/8" to 1/2" thick) directly over
most sound interior or exterior surfaces with the intent to repair,
regrade, and/or beautify existing surfaces. Their most popular use
is for re-surfacing stained-discolored concrete or to hide unsightly
cracks or surface blemishes. Overlays can be sprayed,
stamped
or textured through various types of stamps or texturing tools,
stenciled
and or colored through the use of concrete coloring agents or acid
stains. In
addition to costing substantially less than demolishing and replacing
the existing interior or exterior surface, overlays are extremely
durable with compressive strengths in excess of 5000 psi. They are
durable enough to withstand New England winters and can even be
applied to steps and vertical surfaces.
